This addition to John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science aims to provide interior connections between the O’Bryant campus buildings by reclaiming underutilized existing exterior spaces. The project also provides essential common gathering spaces for the students that is missing from the existing building’s interior. Greater access to natural daylight is granted as a result of the largest element of the intervention, named The Spine. Additional educational programming is incorporated, providing additional engineering lab space, study rooms, library, computer labs, and a completely new art department that is missing from the current school.
